Description: I recently recieved the Garageband Jam Pack 2: Remix Tools, and decided to try them out. This unimaginatively named track is the result - it essentially is to Remix Tools what My Song was to the default GarageBand setup. This one, though, features GarageBand's piano instrument, some of the new Remix Tools drum sets, and various other sound kits.

Like My Song, this is another "loopy" type of composition, primarily consisting of different sequences of GarageBand loops, some on instruments you wouldn't exactly expect to feature them. The result is something that at times sounds both mainstream and experimental, and certainly unique, although it does have a slight habit of jumping around. I always have some issues with these kinds of pieces, as they pose a sort of dilemma for me - they are my own musical works, or at least my own sequences, but at the same time, they are primarily the arrangement of someone else's work (albeit someone else's work that I have a royalty-free license to use). Now, I know that a lot of people consider this to be a perfectly valid concept - GarageBand itself, along with other such programs (eJay studio, GrooveMaker, etc), seem to be designed with this purpose in mind, and primarily focus on the recombination of included or other royalty-free loops (although most, at least, do offer additional creative capabilities). And, indeed, I doubt that many other people would have come up with this particular sequence and layering of loops. However, I do feel a bit better when the entire song is composed of my notes and sequences, or at least are predominantly my own.

That being said, this is an interesting piece, and one that has definitely grown on me with extended listening.
